Pretzel Chairs

Tuesday, November 20, 2012

Um, are these gorgeous or what? Pretzel chairs were originally designed by George Nelson.

The Red Dress

Thursday, April 26, 2012

I can't believe I almost let National Poetry month go by with no acknowledgement on my blog. This poem isn't anything deep, but Dorothy Parker is always fun. And isn't that vintage red dress beyond marvelous?

The Red Dress

I always saw, I always said
If I were grown and free,
I'd have a gown of reddest red
As fine as you could see,

To wear out walking, sleek and slow,
Upon a Summer day,
And there'd be one to see me so
And flip the world away.

And he would be a gallant one,
With stars behind his eyes,
And hair like metal in the sun,
And lips too warm for lies.

I always saw us, gay and good,
High honored in the town.
Now I am grown to womanhood....
I have the silly gown.

Wrapping The Week

Friday, September 10, 2010

{Source}

Got a million things done yesterday while mom watched Audrey. Birthday party venue is booked! This weekend, looking forward to Art Outside.

  • According to the New York Times, big hair is still here. Oh happy day! (Drew. Brigitte. Dolly.)
  • Zappos is great, but I found these same boots for $50 at Marshall's this week. Score!
  • I love this post about how Halloween has turned into "dress like a slut" day for a lot of women. These are some great alternative costume ideas. I'm going as Frida this year.
  • And now for my "act like a 20 year year old" contribution to today's post...I hate Lady Gaga, but Joseph Gordon-Levitt is yummy.
Hope your weekend is yummy too.

Bakelite Love

Wednesday, June 02, 2010

I have collected a lot of vintage jewelry over the years, but never any serious Bakelite. I'm not sure why (price?) because I am loving these bracelets, mostly found on Etsy.

Vitrolite

Monday, May 03, 2010

The house of one of my college friends was profiled in the Post Dispatch over the weekend. The slideshow is great. The entire kitchen of their 1930s home is Vitrolite. Check out the Vitrolite Obsession Flickr pool. I'm also loving the Retro Renovation site these days.

Swedish Shoe Love

Tuesday, April 27, 2010

{Asa Westlund}
{Maguba}
{Hasbeens}

I've been a little shoe obsessed lately. Odd since I'm rarely in anything other than my Born  or Keene Mary Janes. But these Swedish shoes all make me swoon. I seriously love the hand painted floral clogs from Swedish designer Ã…sa Westlund. At Maguba, you can design your own clogs, including silver! The blue Hasbeens are lovely, and not cheap. Their day glow boots are fun, but a little too much...I'm having a hard time imaging them on anyone really.

Jipsi

Monday, March 15, 2010

I hadn't visited SKIF for months, but went over the weekend with Tracy and Katy. The display windows on the Daggett side entrance are filled with goodies from a new boutique. Jipsi is a gorgeous amalgamation of rust and glitter, sort of a more authentic and organic Anthropologie. The owner (Jenny Baca) was super sweet and had I not been chasing Audrey away from the sherbert colored typewriters, I would have loved to have talked to her more. Tracy left with a boatload of new Skifwear, and Nina generously gave Lindsey a super foxy blue/slate sweater. I desperately need some new clothes, but there was too much mayhem for me to do serious shopping. Nina gave us a mini tour of Herbaria soap company next door and then we went to k. hall, where a warehouse sale was happening. I'd never been in there and scored some some lemon verbena shower scrub and a clary sage candle for a mere $10 total. A delightful day.

Rock Star Redux

Sunday, March 14, 2010

I had to provide a follow up to my Rock Star post from January. Audrey's silver leggings arrived and we finally broke them out yesterday. She hardly stood still long enough in them for me to get a decent photo. The hat came from Aunt Katy's trip to Thailand. Love the bad attitude pose.

Uniform

Monday, March 01, 2010

I came across Ralph Lauren's spring 2010 look, influenced by The Grapes of Wrath, in the New York Times' T Magazine. Typically, I don't get excited about such things, but the overalls caught my attiontion. Similar overalls were my uniform from about 1987-1990 when I was painting almost daily. I miss that routine of creativity and the routine of the uniform. I would like to dress like this every day, minus the hat. Here is more on overalls from The Sartorialist.

Clouds and Sweaters

Monday, January 25, 2010

One of my favorite Flickr pools is Powerlines with Clouds. I only belong to a few public Flickr groups and this is one. I took this photo in July 2008 while sitting on the stoop at Skif waiting on friends. I could use some knew Skiffy sweaters and particularly like this sunny cardigan, although not sure I can pull off yellow.

Hubba

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

This picture of Myrna Loy is stunning. Actually, all of these starlets have incredible hair. I've got to do something with mine. The fact that I'm blogging about hair is an indication of the depth of my funk.

Simplicity

Thursday, December 17, 2009

This is some of my inspiration for 2010. I want clean, white and not so cluttered. Not sure I can accomplish this with a two year old. But I'm aiming for simplicity and serenity in our bedroom.
