What a lovey dovey house this week. My vacation did us all good. Audrey's been very curious about the planets and is doing a good job of memorizing them. We investigated them on the NASA website. This weekend, we plan to do some outdoor exploring. The maples across the street cast the most magnificent warm glow into our living room and I would love nothing more than to cozy up with some book, but the leaves, the leaves. We want to see the leaves. So road tripping, we are.
The Daniel Shown and Carmelita Nunez show at SOHA Gallery. So beautiful. So fun. What a great Friday night. And this weekend I found my vintage pencil box with pencils worn to the tiniest nubbins in the universe. So heartbreakingly cute.
Here are some of my favorite shoes for fall. I don't event know if these are 2011 season, but if I had money to blow, these would be my picks. Those red oxford wedges are just ridic.
After all the gallery hopping on Friday night, I realized I am in dire need of some sassy summer walking shoes. I know...the Naturalizers and Privos are a little "old lady" but they look like good kickers for the grocery store and serious sight seeing jaunts. But sorry Donald J. Pliner...as sweet as you look, this gal refuses to pay $150 for flats. I'll probably end up with the Clarks. Such a sucker for red shoes.
I've been a little shoe obsessed lately. Odd since I'm rarely in anything other than my Born or Keene Mary Janes. But these Swedish shoes all make me swoon. I seriously love the hand painted floral clogs from Swedish designer Åsa Westlund. At Maguba, you can design your own clogs, including silver! The blue Hasbeens are lovely, and not cheap. Their day glow boots are fun, but a little too much...I'm having a hard time imaging them on anyone really.
The green shoes (MIA) I wore to a birthday party on Saturday and they didn't hurt my feet once. Joy! I love them so. The other two pair are on my summer shoe shopping list. I need another pair of red shoes (Rocket Dog) like a hole in the head. And the brown shoes (Privo) don't exactly scream summer, but they are soooo comfortable. I could probably use some sandals, but nothing is exciting me on that front.
Audrey's birthday is just one week from Christmas. I want to get her cowgirl boots. Most of them in her size are pink, but I'm shopping for red. Oh, we have some contenders.
Good: Red boots
Better: Boots that light up...for my rhinestone cowgirl. BEST: Red and turquoise AND the hearts light up? Seriously?
Why don't they have this dress in Audrey's size? It is French and her chubby little self would look so freakin' adorable in it. Lindsey started work at the French company bioMérieux this week. The standard legal jargon footer in their emails is in French and also includes this sweet green sentiment...

Why do I love everything French all of a sudden? Baby clothes, cheese (well...that isn't new), tennis shoes. French class was the only C grade I received.
We toured a montessori school this morning (for the 2010 school year) and I wanted to like it more than I did. I envisioned something greener, with more inspired playgrounds. I dunno. I just wasn't impressed. Everyone seemed nice enough. But I have a tour scheduled at another school tomorrow. They already have a wait list, so that doesn't sound hopeful. I can't believe I have to already start looking into this. The forms for the magnet pre-schools are incomprehensible. (Form says "See page 4 for details on age requirements." Um...the form is only 1 page long. Duh.)
I have so many smart and wonderful friends. Some with kids, some without. I wish we could all tackle this daycare thing together. I find four friends--watch their four kids and mine one day a week, and we all take turns. Except that we would each need an assistant and day to recover. But the idea of Audrey learning art and photography from Jess and Laura, and learning to garden and write from Stefene, learning to play soccer from Thomas, pottery from Carmelita, how to score terrific finds from Katy. I can handle teaching her how to cook and sew. Lindsey can handle teaching her bad jokes and good grammar. Let's see...we need to cover dancing and musical instruments. Can I cram anything else into the kid.
How about a little love?
Oh, by the way, she had two shots and blood drawn at her 18 month check-up today and not a single tear. She is one super baby.
Today I had all to myself. Audrey went to the sitter and Lindsey worked. I slept late (9:30) and then hauled some stuff in to Kangaroo Kids, took the car by the Subaru dealership for a quote on the headlight damage we suffered on Saturday (OUCH...$565), and then went to Target for a quick return. I also snuck in a little shoe shopping. Almost two years ago I finally had to say good-bye to my favorite shoes of all time. My Born Mary Janes (see my feet in the header of this blog). I searched high and low for a replacement pair online, with no luck. I finally gave up the search. I found a substitute, but they were like a rebound relationship. They never held a true place in my heart.
Today, I'm in DSW and holy holy holy...there they were. I danced. I know that at almost 42, holding on to this love of Mary Janes is probably the equivalent of holding on to mall bangs or acid wash jeans. But I L-O-V-E these shoes.
