Big Trash Day

It is official. Our offer was accepted and we close on our house on April 6th. We are quite excited. The kitchen in the new place is awesome and for the first time in my adult life, I will have a dishwasher. As an avid cook who likes to use every utensil at her disposal, I can't tell you how much this modern convenience will mean. I can really have dinner parties and entertain now. While my kitchen on Fyler was adorable, it was an eat-in kitchen and I couldn't really serve elaborate meals. Same with the house Lindsey is renting--not really conducive to entertaining. The new house is in beautiful shape...a totally rehabbed 1925 bungalow that has had the attic converted into two bedrooms. So it has all the charm and character of an old house, but none of the problems.

I am excited about whipping the back yard in to shape. It is not quite as private and magical as my backyard on Fyler, but I know I can make it sweet and I will be glad to have less yardwork to do. All I really want is an herb garden and tons of zinnias. Sort of a cottage garden.

This whole moving experience is proving to be quite cathartic. The editing process can be painful, but I feel good letting go of the clutter. Some gal came by on Saturday (Big Trash Day) and gleefully left with old windows for a craft project. And I'm sure my bowling ball collection went to a good home as well.

SOLD

Lindsey and I put a contract on a house this weekend. It is a super cutie on Magnolia, just 1.3 miles from my current abode. So after all those trips to yonderville, we end up staying put. For now anyway. More later.

Finger-Flippin

I’ve been the recipient of minor road rage the last two mornings. Shouting, finger-flipping psychos.

Every morning I take Jamieson north to Arsenal west, traveling the Arsenal overpass to connect to northbound McCausland. Cars are always attempting to use the far left turn lane on Jamieson and then squeeze into the right turn lane on Arsenal to get to northbound McCausland. For the ten years I’ve lived in my house, this overpass has had only one right turn lane onto McCausland—even though there are two northbound lanes. Never understood it, but always always use the friendly lanes.

But this week…this week I noticed NEW ARROWS painted in the middle turn lane that allow cars to go left, straight or RIGHT onto northbound McCausland. Yippee! Or so I thought. When I tried to use the lane yesterday, some 40 something gal started honking and screaming her head off at me. She was turning as purple as her stocking cap. I was trying to indicate the number “2” to let her know there are two right turn lanes. But she wanted no part of reason. Today when I tried to use it, two men in a sedan lost it completely. They tried to run me into the curb. Again, I tried to indicate there are two turn lanes, but he just kept switching between the “#1” sign and the middle finger. Nice. Look at the arrows people. The traffic rules have changed. Embrace them.

I may look for an alternate route tomorrow.
