Well, the birthday weekend was divine. For two days in a row I was able to sleep in and actually wake up without an alarm clock. On Friday night I slept 11 hours. That may have been the best birthday gift of all! Saturday we went to Rue Lafayette for breakfast, saw Hugo 3D, and got the French cheese plate at Sasha's. I hadn't planned to have a French themed celebration, but I certainly didn't mind.
I thought this woman had great style. She was thoroughly enjoying the French gypsy jazz music at the cafe Saturday morning and really "owned" that chair and her colorful blouse.
At the used book store on Saturday (my favorite date place always) I found a gorgeously illustrated gardening book called Seed Leaf Flower Fruit by Maryjo Koch. It is for adults but I thought Audrey might like it. She loved it! She was especially interested in the illustrations of dozens of different types of dried beans and the spices. So I got a bunch of spices out of the cupboard for a "smelly party". Here is my parenting tip of the month. You can turn almost anything into a fun activity for a four year old just by throwing the word "party" on the end of it. Audrey was uninterested in laundry until I told her we were having a "folding party" and now she wants to help every time. And a couple of weeks ago, I invited her to a "sweeping party". I'm telling you, this idea is golden. Unfortunately, it will probably only last until she is 4-1/2.
Momma and me at our birthday dinner Friday night. She cooked everything (except the chocolate pie) and I got the sweetest green teapot I've been coveting for oh, only about three years. One of the things I gave her was the vintage kitten planter with succulents. Isn't it adorable?
So today I took off work and treated myself to a new hair color, a makeup consultation at Sephora, a swell green handbag, an 80% off watch, and a nap. God, I love sleep. It's been a few good few days.
PS
Today, Joanna wrote about a very dear subject to me. We connected on this topic almost a year ago and I shared my experience with her. I was elated that she took the courageous step to tell her story about depression and weaning. She quoted me in her post and I know that her writing about this will help a lot of moms. She did a beautiful job.
