It's a two post morning, what with the MLK holiday, and all.
The father of one of my best friends lost his business in a 4 alarm fire on Thursday night. For over thirty years his dental practice was in a wonderful Victorian-era home in Maplewood. In addition to his business, he lost a vast amount of irreplaceable sports memorabilia he'd collected over the years. We have been heart sick all weekend. So sad. No one was hurt, thankfully. But no one deserves this. Especially Mr. Fischer.
As promised we had a low key weekend. Audrey and I made puppets and a puppet theater. We also went to the Whittle Shortline Railroad on Sunday. It was cute, but she wasn't as into it as I thought she would be. The biggest surprise came at the library, where Audrey selected a huge anatomy book, which kept her mesmerized much of the weekend. We were a little apprehensive because the content is way over her head and I'm not always comfortable with the illustrations. But the reality of it is, that is what our bodies look like. I don't want her to be embarrassed. It is science. If she's interested in it, I'm not going to dissuade her. I keep answers to her questions on her level and try to concentrate on the internal organs, muscles, and bones. The book is huge, so I can usually easily skip the hairy parts (ha). On Sunday it was a veritable ER in the living room. With her doctor kit she attended to her sick stuffed animals and listened to our hearts ad infinitum.
