It has been so long since I have posted here that I almost considered abandoning the blog for 2006. But then something so great comes along that I want to rave about and there is no better place to rave…so the blog will live another day.
It has also been a very long time since I fell in love with a band. But right now, I am swooning something awful for What Made Milwaukee Famous out of Austin, Texas. Michael Kincaid’s voice is phenomenal. The lyrics are intelligent and quirky—and not quirky in a pretentious way—they are quirky thoughtful. It is the kind of music that makes me excited about music. There are nooks and crannies throughout the album that remind me of the best of all my favorite songs of the past 15 years, but yet it sounds amazingly fresh. I mean it—I love it. (Hellodrama and the title track—WOW!) I only wish they toured more—I see no dates outside of Texas, which means I may have to make a trip to Austin. [Maybe I should have moved to Austin after all.]
Lindsey got me an iPod Nano as an early birthday/valentine gift and it is way cooler than I even imagined. I downloaded six albums last night:
- What Made Milwaukee Famous - Trying to Never Catch Up
- Res - How I Do
- Nouvelle Vague - Nouvelle Vague
- Shelby Lynne - I am Shelby Lynne
- Shelby Lynne - Identity Crisis
- Blondie - Best of Blondie
Other than my gushing crush on a foxy boy band—I’ve been consumed with trying to get my house ready to sell, 52nd City, and the Glass Art Conference. And tying up loose ends at Mad Art here and there. All is well. Rave on.
